SiteManager: Handling The Transition Of Existing Sites.
Technology White Paper By: Mark R. Stahl.

Using SiteManager to deploy new Websites is a "no brainer". However, if you are revamping an existing site, the decision might seem a little more complicated. Appearances can be a little deceiving!

SiteManager delivers content to a site using one of two methods.

  • Full Content Delivery
Based on the setups, SiteManager prepares the text, formats it with the site's specific design elements, includes a secondary formatting based on the type of content being requested, and then sends it to the browser.
  • Partial XML Method
The invoked page is responsible for delivering the formatting, where SiteManager simply sends the desired text.
The two delivery methods combined with the different options available to each type of content are key to the integration process.

Because all sites are not the same the expansion, redesign, redeployment, or maintenance, takes one of the following routes:

  1. Move the complete content of the existing site to SiteManager.
This idea is not as radical as it looks, and can be very useful in cases of redesign, redeployment, or expansion with additional elements. This is accomplished in a number of easy steps:
    • Collect the existing content of the site, either from existing files, or by importing the contents of the existing site using a download tool.
    • Prepare any modifications or changes to design elements.
    • Use the online editing tools to copy and paste the text, or let Nets2YOU associates perform a rapid import using direct connections to the databases.
    • Update links to use the new format.
    • Done!
  2. Use SiteManager for new content, and create links into it from the existing site. Once again the process is simple:
    • Prepare the modified content.
    • Add it to SiteManager.
    • Optionally, the site may require the addition of some programs for template control using XML delivery.
    • Change the links for modified pages to the SiteManager format if necessary (it is possible to bypass this step by changing the existing pages to be redirectioin control pages).
    • Pages are imported as changes are made to them.
    • Done!
  3. Use SiteManager Selectively.
The existing content may be fine as is, and SiteManager is intgrated to deploy specific capabilities such as the Smart Autoresponder feature or the rapid Frequently Asked Questions content.
    • Insert the appropriate links into the existing site to request Full Content Delivery of the desired content.
    • Done!
    • Other Integration can be done at a later time.
